Lovely holiday-house in Noto

Perfect location to visit the beautiful baroque cities in Sicily. Very nice and clean house with view over Noto. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet, the house is very private! Wonderful places outside to sit in the sun or in the shade to ‘dolce far niente’. You even have a fan and a fridge outside! If you like to cook with the excellent Sicilian products, you will find everything you need in the kitchen. The terraced garden is like the garden of Eden : figs and grapes for breakfast, rocket salad for dinner, almonds all fresh from the tree and later in season oranges and lemons. Best mattress we ever had in a rental house and a mosquito-net. The owners and the caretaker (Marilou) make you feel more than welcome. They were very helpful before and during our stay! We have already rented dozens of houses in Italy and Sicily, but this is a house we can definitely recommend!

Unique Casa Isabella

Myself, wife and 3 year old had a lovely holiday in Sicily whilst staying at Casa Isabella. From the very first communications with Richard it was clear that he was passionate about making sure we had the best holiday possible. He even took time out of his day to call me whilst on holiday when we encountered a small issue with our car hire. Very helpful owners. Travel from the airport was pretty straightforward though Italian driving standards are interesting to put it politely! On arrival, like many others we took up the offer of a meal prepared by Marilou the caretaker. It was a great decision and well worth the money, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this option! The accommodation was clean and everything you could possibly need was in the kitchen. The outside space was huge (the pictures really do not do it justice how much land is attached). Beautiful views of Noto and beyond are enjoyed from the various terraces and seating areas. We particularly enjoyed having the shaded seating area with fan during the hot July temperatures. Handily there is also a fridge up there too which we utilised for drinks!! We had some nice day trips to Modica, Scicli and the Aretusa Waterpark! Casa Isabella is certainly well placed to visit some lovely little towns nearby, although with a 3 year old in tow we probably didn't see a much as we might of liked! He certainly enjoyed exploring the outside space of Casa Isabella and loved going on hunts to fetch fresh lemons and oranges from the Orchards below! Thank you to Richard for use of his home and for all his help and advice throughout.

Casa Isabella is a hidden gem - nestled in the countryside, peaceful and quiet. The house has everything that you need and is the perfect place to enjoy lazy days in the sun, finished off with a barbeque and bottle of wine watching the sunset. If you are interested in ancient history, impressive architecture, beautiful scenery, lovely beaches and good food, it is all within easy reach. Thanks to Marilou for making us welcome and cooking a delicious meal on our arrival and thanks to Richard and Sue for providing a place to stay where we could relax an unwind. We hope to return.

We had a fantastic time in Casa Isabella, the house is small and cute and the grounds vast and private. However you are not isolated, Noto is on full view from the garden terraces and only a 20 min walk or a small car ride. We lived on the terrace outside the kitchen and every meal was cooked on the BBQ, gazing over the valley to Noto's twinkling lights. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need and the bed was very comfy. We had no mosquito problems. There are nice beaches a short drive away and the lovely reserves to play in. The photo's do not do the house justice, you don't get a true feel of the view and outside space. Richard was wonderful to deal with and always answered our queries.

Tranquil Casa on the outskirts of Noto

Rating - 5 stars

Date of Stay 2nd April 2018

This was our second stay at Casa Isabella and we loved everything about it. It feels very rural but is only a couple of minutes drive to Noto. The Casa is clean, has everything you need and it all works. The views towards Noto from the terrace are lovely. The gardens surrounding the Casa are beautiful and the land, with it's many Citrus and Almond trees, is a joy to wonder about in. The hosts were very friendly and helpful both before and during our stay. Despite living in the UK they made it clear they were always available if we needed any help their housekeeper was unable to provide. They got in touch to check everything was to our liking after our arrival. They arranged for their housekeeper to do some shopping for us, as we arrived on a public holiday and all the shops were closed. The hosts also provide a google map guide of the area with many recommendations, which was great. We would recommend Casa Isabella to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat in this beautiful part of Sicily. We hope to return in the not too distant future. Rob and Clare - London UK

Casa Isabella is in a wonderful location, overlooking the beautiful baroque town of Noto. The little villa sits in its own terraced grounds of almond, olive and citrus trees. Sitting in the gardens at sunset, with a glass of wine, looking out over the Duomo of Noto is a really lovely experience. Casa Isabella is just over a mile away from Noto itself, and the town has much to recommend it, including: good places to eat, with some of the best gelato in Italy; various cultural events throughout the year; wonderful architecture and a fascinating history. The little villa is clean and well-equipped, and Richard is a considerate host, even from the UK. He has provided a comprehensive file, with many recommendations, all of which proved reliable. His caretaker, Marilou, is also an asset, because as well as greeting clients, on prior request she is also able to provide a much welcome meal for the weary airport arrivee! There is much to see and do around the

This property is everything you could want from a holiday home. It is very well equipped- the kitchen has everything you could need to cook, there are lots of books on the local area and there's even a parasol for the beach. The views towards Noto and the valley are spectacular. The plunge pool was much appreciated in the heat of the afternoon. We loved reading books there and looking out over the valley. The property feels secluded and quiet. You can use herbs and fruit from the land, including lemons that are great for homemade lemonade! The house's location is ideal. Noto, lovely beaches, Syracuse, Cava Grande etc are well within striking distance. Richard, who owns the property, was really helpful before and during our stay. He sent a guide with restaurants and activities that he'd recommend as well as thorough directions from the airport. Definitely recommended.

Casa Isabella is a fantastic base to explore the southeast corner of Sicily. It is an easy drive from Catania, and Richard's directions are simple to follow. The villa has been beautifully converted and had everything we could possibly need including a very well equipped kitchen. Cooking dinner whilst enjoying the view of the sunset through the kitchen window was a pleasure; make sure dinner is served on the terrace with a glass of something in time to enjoy the spectacular colours as the sun finally dips below the hillside. We made several visits to Noto which has a wealth of buildings and backstreets for many hours of exploring. Coming back from town, we loved walking through the orchard back up to the villa, picking a lemon or two along the way. In the higher July temperatures we were grateful for the plunge pool when we got back. We would recommend asking for Marilou's cooked meal on arrival, this was most welcome after a long trip, although it did set the bar rather high for our attempts at Sicilian cooking for the rest of the week. Thanks to Richard for being on hand to provide speedy text messages to advise on any query during our stay. In summary - a great week in a unique property in a beautiful location.

We had a wonderful week at Casa Isabella. The house itself has everything you need for relaxing holiday. Kitchen is well equipped with both utensils and cupboard essentials (which you just replace on an honesty system). Great comfortable sleeping and living area with air con which was much appreciated as it hit over 40C while we were there and I was 4 months pregnant! Loads of outdoor space including the kitchen terrace, covered terrace and pool area with olive trees providing some lovely shade. Everything was really well maintained and clean for our arrival. We also opted for the welcome meal which was great value and included one of the nicest meat sauces I have ever eaten. Richard was really responsive to any questions we had although his google and in house guides meant we didn't have many. The location of the casa was ideal for us, being very secluded but also close to Noto with lots of lovely restaurants (we really liked Dammuso and Il Cantuccio). I would highly recommend a car though in order to explore some of the nearly towns (such as Ortigia) and Sicily's East coast. Overall we hope we get the chance to go back to Casa Isabella. If not we will be recommending it to all our friends and family instead.

We truly loved Richard and Sue's apartment! It is a stand alone property on beautiful landscaped grounds. The view from the terraces is just great and it is a short 5 Minute drive to the nearby City Noto, which has a lot of great restaurants and cafés. There are a couple of beaches Close by. We preferred the Il Gelsomineto beach, which is about 15-20 minutes from the apartment. As it is not a serviced beach, it is very relaxed and the sea is just beautiful. The Apartment itself has everything you could Need during a Holiday. We also had a lunch prepared by caretaker Marilou which I would definitely recommend to everyone as it is very relaxed for the day of arrival. Richard and Sue have everything well prepared and are always at your disposal if there is a problem or if you need advice. Richard's Google map, that he sends you after booking, was such a great help for orientation in the area and to find nice beaches and restaurants. Overall a great experience! Thank you!

Casa Isabella is in a wonderful location with gorgeous views, gardens and privacy. It is in an ideal spot for getting away from it all, sightseeing in this rich part of Sicily, and for enjoying the beauty of Noto. The Casa is rustic and homely with all you need for a self-catering holiday. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bathroom spacious and the bed comfortable. Casa Isabella was lovely to go back to each day and was a very relaxing haven, especially with the choice of outdoor areas to use. The views are spectacular, as are the sunsets. Being surrounded by nature, including numerous butterflies in the gardens, was beautiful. I would recommend a small hire car as roads in this area are narrow. We were offered a Jeep but chose a Fiat 500 which was perfect for sightseeing and parking on our days out. Richard is very helpful and always on hand if you need advice on anything. We can recommend the meal on arrival which was delicious and the perfect way to start our holiday. We hope to return next year. There is so much to see and experience in this part of Sicily and Casa Isabella provides a perfect base from which to explore and also relax in.

Comfortable accommodation and a well equipped kitchen which enabled us to enjoy cooking local spring produce of artichokes, wild asparagus, fennel, beans and peas. There is also a very good butcher and fishmonger in Noto. Owner, Richard, is very friendly and helpful with tips about the area, and replies to emails and texts very quickly. Good wifi. This property is exactly as beautiful as described by the owner on the Holiday site. The house is really comfortable and supplied with everything that you can possibly need during your stay. The owner Richard is very helpful, attentive and caring of his guests. The caretakers of the property are also very nice people. We stayed for the whole month of November. We had a few rainy and cool days but it did not stop us from visiting the towns around. So many interesting places to see around Syracuse. On the property itself, we had fresh oranges and grapefruit everyday. We walked down often in the mornings to go for a walk in Noto. It is a 20 minute walk and by car it is only 5 minutes. There is easy access by the roads to visit so many interesting places. We went to walk on the craters of Mount Etna. We visited Taormina, Syracuse, Ortigia, Modica, Ragusa and the beautiful natural reserves of Vendicari where you can walk for hours. From Casa Isabella, there is a beautiful view on Noto. It is the ideal property to be in the countryside close to the city. Our compliments to the owners for being so attentive and ready to help if you should need anything. Date of Stay - 10 Sep 2016

The property more than lived up to our expectations. It is in a beautiful location and extremely well landscaped. The outside spaces were relaxing and varied, a great way to chill. The outside facilities (though we didn't have use of the dip pool) were excellent, thoughtfully laid out and very inviting. The views far exceeded any hopes we had, the sunsets over Noto were breathtaking. Inside the property was very well maintained very well equipped, clean and again, great use of space. Very comfortable to come back to. The facilities were extremely good and the netting around the bed was very welcome. Richard was very, very helpful and supportive providing us with very good advice beforehand as well as whilst we were there. There is so much to see and do that we had to plan what not to do rather than what to do. We loved the countryside and Noto itself. The beaches were excellent, we particularly enjoyed Eloro. Travelling to Taormina, Siracusa, and Montalbano country down south was very easy. Agrigento was also within an easy couple of hours, so from soaking up the sun on a beach to visiting the sights made for a very full two weeks, but also thoroughly relaxing and rejuvenating. The food everywhere we ate was extremely good and it was easy to buy fresh produce to cook/eat at home as well. We would, and have, recommend Casa Isabella to friends (couples). It is quiet, very relaxing and east to be in. Ian and Beverley

We had a fantastic stay at Casa Isabella. Richard and Sue have managed to think of everything you might possibly need during your time there. We were greeted by Marielou who had made us an amazing swordfish and baked zucchini and ricotta cheese meal with a well needed chilled bottle of delicious white wine, just delicious! All for just 25 euro well worth it after the journey. We really enjoyed using all the different outside sitting areas and having BBQ's while looking over the amazing views. Casa Isabella is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute walk from Noto. We loved walking down through the valley into Noto picking fruit along the way. Pomegranates, oranges, lemons, figs and lots of almonds were very much appreciated! Noto is an amazing town well worth a visit it comes to life at night and there is always some sort of street entertainment. We had an amazing meal at Manna ristorante, which would be our pick of the bunch of many great restaurants. We would recommend bringing some walking shoes or pumps as there are lots of brilliant places to visit that require a bit of walking. We visited Cava Grande it was well worth the climb down the clear pools and waterfalls were amazing take lots to drink especially for the walk back up. Our favourite beach was Eloro 2 easy to walk to and clean but busy, as we found all the beaches were in August. We went on a boat trip with Giuseppe and Marie (Seecily Cruises) sailing from Marzamemi well worth a trip! Richard was very helpful before and during our stay and was always on hand with advice to ensure we had a perfect stay. Thoroughly recommended and we would love to visit again next summer.

Casa Isabella is a wonderful retreat for a relaxing holiday in Sicily. With the temperature in the 40s, we were more than happy to use the many shaded terraces and the very welcome plunge pool to unwind and relax. The property is furnished with everything that you need for a self catering holiday, with Noto being only a 20 minute walk away, through the terraced gardens. The property and it's grounds were spotless when we arrived - we felt that we were the first ever to have stayed! We took advantage of Marilou's evening meal and were rewarded with a delicious vegetarian Sicilian meal. Definitely recommended! As a bit of a 'nervous driver' the unpaved road up to the villa was a bit of a shock but with practice it was easy! We would definitely stay again - perhaps in June when it is a little cooler!!!

Booking a cottage in a foreign land can be a lottery. The photos look great, but you never know what you might find just off the photo! There was no need to worry with Casa Isabella. It's every bit as good as the photos and more. We had a lovely week at Casa Isabella and can't recommend it highly enough. The information that Richard provided before our stay was amazingly comprehensive and invaluable. Everything from where to buy bread to the best places to visit. A brilliant guide. Casa Isabella is the perfect hideaway for a quiet, get away from it all holiday. The view from the terrace is stunning, the cottage is beautiful and has everything needed for a comfortable stay. We particularly appreciated the floor to ceiling mosquito net over the bed and the air con which was very efficient. The internet was excellent quality and very reliable. The plunge pool was very welcome to cool off in the Sicilian heat. Richard and Sue could not have been more supportive and helpful. They went the extra mile when one of us was very sick on the first evening. We sent a text to ask where the nearest chemist was and Sue rang from England to check we were ok and give us advice. Marilou, the caretaker, cooked us a lovely meal on arrival, and made us feel very welcome. Noto is a beautiful city and Casa Isabella is ideally located just outside in the peace and quiet of the country a couple of miles away by car. It's also within easy reach of beautiful beaches and Ortigia is a must see.

This was our second holiday at Casa Isabella. It is a fantastically well equipped villa for 2 and offers the peace and tranquility of a countryside location but is but a stones throw from Noto. Richard and Sue have ensured the villa is equipped to a high standard. We love being able to cook as the local ingredients are so good. The kitchen at Casa Isabella is amazing with everything needed to prepare wonderful meals and then sit on the terrace and enjoy the food, wine and views to Noto as the sun sets. The grounds are extensive, the terraces full of almond, lemon, orange, pomegranate and other trees. There are so many reasons to visit this little villa. Ours was simply to unwind and relax and that was easy here! Alternatively, the villa is located to allow the exploration of the whole of the East side of Sicily and is only 5 minutes from the centre of Noto by car. Noto is beautiful with it's Baroque like the main beach at Lido di Noto but much quieter beaches are as close. Richard is always available for advice and guidance - the fact that he is so deserved! As a footnote, the housekeeper Marilou will prepare an evening meal on request - it is wonderful food and after a long journey, it is great to have her meet and greet you and have food waiting - you must try this! Once again a wonderful holiday in Sicily made possible by such a great villa in such a good location. David & Claire

Casa Isabella is the perfect place to stay for people wanting to explore south east Sicily as well as giving you every opportunity to relax. The cabin is very well equipped, having everything one would wish for when self catering and certainly lived up to the description in the listing and reviews. Richard provided detailed information regarding the property and was keen to ensure that everything was just right for us to enjoy our stay. Casa Isabella is superbly located for the wonderful town of Noto, over which you can watch the sun set each evening. There are many places to visit, both for those who are interested in history as well as nature. Our personal favourite location was Riserva Naturale Oasi Faunistica Vendicari where we saw a beautiful range of bird life (we were also pleased to see the European Bee eater twice near the cabin). The town of Scicli, although slightly off the beaten track, is well worth a visit, with some super eateries and buildings (we actually saw Inspector Montalbano being filmed there!). We ate out at lunch each day, returning to the cabin to cook our evening meal and enjoy the local wine. The well equipped kitchen made this an enjoyable event each day! We would certainly recommend this property, it is quite a find!

Casa Isabella is in a very beautiful location, the garden is huge full of almond trees, olive, orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit . We squeezed fresh orange juice for breakfast, picked our lemons for our fish and ate the most delicious grapefruit . The temperature in April was perfect, sunny and between 22 deg and 28 deg every day, even though the Sicilians were dressed for winter, we swam in the Ionian sea quite a few times at nearby Lido de Noto and a very unspoilt and still wild beach at Eloro . Wonderful after such a long drizzly winter ..There are also beautiful walks nearby where wild sage and flowers were abundant . Mount Etna is a really interesting day trip and Siracusa well worth a visit. Noto with it's stunning architecture has numerous lovely restaurants and breakfast or early evening aperitivo is a real treat, don't miss the Palazzo Villadorata, or the nearby Vendicari nature reserve... We recommend a very good restaurant In the car park there, Il Baglietto, before hiking in the park or visiting the old ruins of the Tuna factory, to work off your lunch. The house is quite basic but has absolutely everything you could possibly need and Richard and Sue have worked hard in getting it right, it is very good value for money. The areas to sit out and eat have gorgeous views and are full of blooming cacti and lavender... We had a bit of a problem getting there in the dark, would recommend a really good map for driving , with sp roads marked on it, if you can find one . But When we did get lost we phoned Richard who very impressively over the phone guided us to the house...what incredible service ...! I have to say I have never stayed anywhere that has had such an attentive, caring host . When I fed back comments after our stay about possibly making the instructions better for people arriving in the dark. I received a lovely reply with new arrival directions perfectly updated ... Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Casa Isabella for a really good spot to stay near Noto with attentive, caring owners, even the lovely housekeeper, Marilou was still waiting for us, sat in the garden at nearly midnight with a delicious meal .... What more can we say .. Nick & Michele

This was our third stay at Casa Isabella, so you can tell we love it. We escaped the weather on Dartmoor for 10 weeks, wending our way down through France & Italy in our camper and staying here for a lovely, restful month. We tended to walk into Noto (about 20 minutes, including walking down through the oranges, lemons, olive trees & almond blossom, to mention a few, on the terraced land that goes with Casa Isabella - make sure Marilou gives you the pink key to the lower gate) to enjoy the architecture but also the restaurants and pasticcerias - we recommend Tannur & Caffe Constanza in particular. We were a little later in the season this year, so saw more flowers and butterflies (Brimstone Cleopatra specially) and the cows, complete with bells were out on the hill. Notice the acanthus underfoot - those leaves they put on the top of Doric(I think) Columns. We made lots of trips, e.g. to Syracuse which has plenty to offer (atmosphere, archaeology, shops & restaurants - we like the Papyrus Museum too), Modica for chocolate & food and we finally managed to walk along the Cava Grande. Look out for all Montalbano's hangouts too. Try the train for a change - you have to buy tickets from a garage - bit of Sicilia! As always this little villa is perfect for two, with washing machine, dishwasher and wood burning stove for cool winter/spring. evenings. We also slept in the van for a few nights, so passing friends could stop over. The wi-fi works well too - good if you make a long stay. If you have any queries, Richard (the owner) is very helpfully available by text & email, and Marilou can pop out to see you, if you need her (we didn't). Enjoy, folks!

Even in January we were able to enjoy the terraces with hibiscus, lavender and bougainvillea in bloom. Great base for touring; area is a haven for bird watchers and hikers with several nature reserves close by. Foodies will not be disappointed, many very good restaurants in the area. Casa Isabella is a definite candidate for the "slow travel movement". We would highly recommend staying here and we will be returning next year.

We stayed at Casa Isabella for a week although we wish it could have been much longer. Casa Isabella occupies a wonderful position on a hillside overlooking Noto across the valley. It is hardly a 5 minute drive to the town but it is so peaceful and relaxing. This small villa is ideal for two people and fantastically well equipped - everything you could wish for is there, the kitchen is wonderful with lots of pots, pans and equipment. There is a reserve of essential ingredients for guests to use and the kitchen has all 'mod cons' such as a dishwasher and washing machine. Added to this the air conditioned bedroom complete with the most comfortable bed. I slept so well and woke rested and cool despite the hot nights. You get a flavour of the comfort offered by this gem of a small villa. It is a credit to Richard and Sue and you feel that you are not in a bland rental but someone's well loved and superbly equipped second home. I highly recommend a stay at Casa Isabella - peace and quiet but close enough to Noto to be there in minutes. There is a plunge pool to cool off in the heat of the day and covered terraces to allow you to lounge around. The immediate area is rich in history with plenty to do. The beaches are a 15 drive away and Syracuse maybe 30 minutes away. The villa is an ideal base to explore or to merely stay out and relax in the sunshine. I would have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful small homely villa to anyone seeking a taste of real Sicily. Staying in this villa allows you independence to self cater and absorb the whole area and its history. I would also add that the caretaker, Marilou offers to make a wonderful meal upon arrival at a modest charge, what an amazing meal we had after a long journey. Definitely worth asking for this courtesy and service!! Wonderful well equipped villa for 2!!

This was our third stay in three years at Casa Isabella and was just as great as previous years. The villa is equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible and the views are spectacular. You could easily spend all day, everyday at the villa however if you do venture out Noto is stunning with plenty of great places to eat and drink. Ortiga is only a 40 minute drive away with beautiful scenary and surroundings. The owners of the villa couldn't be more helpful with any questions you have, whilst providing invaluable tips on places to eat and visit. We would thoroughly recommend a stay at Casa Isabella and hope to return again very soon.

Casa Isabella was the perfect stay for us. It's in a quiet area but very close to Noto. The cabin is really well equipped for everything you might need and Richard was very keen to provide us with any help before and during our stay (though we didn't need anything and we didn't have any problems). The view down from the hillside and across to Noto is beautiful to settle down to with your meal in the evening. The google map for the surrounding area was fab, it's great to have some local knowledge in your pocket when you're trying to decide what to do or where to eat! Noto is a lovely, picturesque town and the food is fabulous. It's also a great base to explore a bit of Sicily, with some lovely places within an hour's drive of the cabin: Cava Grande, Cava Carosello, Calamosche beach, Marzamemi's picturesque fishing town and Siracusa. We also had a fab day's sailing from Catania (check this out on Trip Advisor: Sicily Sailing Experience, well worth taking a day out for). We also opted for Marilou's lunch when we arrived, which was a fantastic welcome. Overall, a great stay and highly recommended!

It's quite hard to envisage the property from the pictures because of the unusual layout, but you won't be disappointed when you arrive. It's beautifully situated with lovely views from the terrace, a short drive from the outstanding town of Noto, and equipped with everything you could want. Richard the owner is very helpful before and during the stay (on email if required) and has compiled an excellent guide to the wider area to ensure you see the best it has to offer. We particularly enjoyed Noto in the evenings (gelato at Caffe Sicilia a must), the rugged but fun beach at Eloro and an up market lunch on a sea terrace off the beautiful square at Marzememi. A great choice for getting away from it all and exploring this lovely corner of the island. Recommended! Ps, go for the dinner cooked on arrival by the housekeeper Marylou if possible - she's great.

We found Casa Isabella a wonderful peaceful place surrounded by flowers with with a lovely view across to the old Baroque town of Noto which is within easy walking distance. Lots to explore, historical sites, nature reserve, beaches and deep gorges with terrific natural swimming pools. The cottage is comfortable and well appointed and the owner couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. We would recommend it to family and friends.

For us, this was an ideal setting - in the countryside yet just a few minutes from the beautiful town of Noto and well placed for the sea, for Syracuse and for exploring the south-east of the island. Lots to see and do both in the immediate area and further afield. The cabin is well equipped and comfortable. We enjoyed sipping wine on the terrace with a golden oriole foraging in a nearby almond tree, bee-eaters flying over and the gentle sound of turtle dove and hoopoe in the background. A couple of things - a bit more printed info on local services and the area would be useful - finding a recycling centre, for instance, involved a complicated palaver of smartphone apps and Google maps (whereas we were in holiday mode and had intellectually switched off). We had taken up the option of dinner on the 1st night, given we were arriving late-ish and it was a birthday, but were disappointed to find the message hadn't got through, having confirmed twice. Luckily we could console ourselves with pasta, tinned tomatoes and Findus frozen veg from the cupboards and freezer. We can only dream of how nice the dinner would have been from other people's comments! For all this, we enjoyed a wonderful holiday at Casa Isabella.

My Response

I’m glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your feedback; in answer to your points - We provide local amenity information as a Google map/app as it is easy for us to update remotely and many of our guests appreciate the ease of being able to use a smartphone for turn by turn navigation to shops/restaurants/places of interest whilst in the local area. Most importantly though we were finding that some of our guests removed written information and maps from the folder for use during their stay but unfortunately forgot to replace it in the house folder before leaving. As our caretaker does not have a printer this meant that subsequent guests had no information at all. Upon your suggestion however we will ensure in future that there is written information in the house-folder about the location of local rubbish disposal sites. With regard to the first night’s meal, I had not been made aware that it was to be a special birthday celebration and I also think it would be fair to mention that I apologised profusely both verbally and by text on the night as soon as our caretaker made me aware of my error. In addition I believe our caretaker offered to cook for you as soon as she realised I had not told her you had ordered a meal, however as you mention you told her you were happy to make use of the well-stocked cupboards we leave for guests. I also gave you £25 towards a meal out during your stay in recompense for my error. I do however apologise once again and should you choose to stay at Casa Isabella again I would be delighted to treat you to a free welcome meal so that you do not miss out on Marilou’s delicious Sicilian cooking.

We had a delightful week at the beginning of spring enjoying the fresh vegetables (including wild asparagus and 'greens'), fruit (amazing oranges and lemons) and wild flowers of the area. We were also impressed by the abundance of fresh fish available locally. The cottage was well equipped with stunning views over the terraced valley overlooking Noto which proved to be a lovely town in a marvellous part of the island. Well located for day trips to Ragusa, Modica, and Syracuse. The owners were extremely helpful with useful advice regarding our first stay in Sicily including extremely accurate directions on how to find Casa Isabella which we found without GPS. We thoroughly recommend this idyllic location and hope to return ourselves in the not too distant future.

Charming compact cabin in extensive grounds with olive trees and citrus, with lovely outdoor sitting/eating areas. Owner available for advice by email and an excellent attentive caretaker. Very hot when we arrived and the plunge pool would have been nice but it is not usually available so late in the season. As it is used regularly by the owners, basic food stuffs are available and may be used, which is a generous touch. Lots of good walking and swimming nearby. Comfortable and a good location, would like to go again! Things we did-Caramosche beach in the Venticari reserve are both well worth a visit but the lagoons in the reserve were rather low at the time of our visit. Normally there are plenty of waders and flamingos to be seen at this time of year. Places we visited and enjoyed included the Cave Grande which unfortunately was closed because of a recent fire, a walk around Noto ( nice simple meal in Emilys which has a very extensive selection of Sicilian wines), Noto Antica and Cava Carosello, a picturesque drive to Piazza Almerina (good restaurant just outside the gates) and a walk in the Necropolis di Pantalica

We returned to Casa Isabella this year for 2 weeks after visiting last year for 1 week and feeling there was much more for us to see and do in the surrounding area. Once again we had a fabulous stay, the location is stunning and Noto is truly beautiful. The villa is very well equipped, extremely clean and tidy and everything we needed was at hand. The owners couldn't have been more helpful and provided some great guidance on places to visit and eat in the local area. A wonderful place to stay, we would thoroughly recommend it and will certainly be visiting again.

We were looking for somewhere away from the crowds for our honeymoon. We always wanted to visit Sicily and this Villa in Noto was just perfect. The location is really secluded and gives the feel of a very exclusive private holiday. You certainly need a hire car to make the most of the area but there are plenty of good local shops and restaurants within a 5/10 minute drive. The beaches nearby are the quietest we had found anywhere in the Med and we were there in peak season! The villa itself is exceptionally clean and really well equipped wit lots of clever details and thoughtful additions. The owners were really helpful before our stay and helped us with all our odd queries...it turns out Noto has a great Gluten Free shop!!! We would certainly go back again and recommend the villa whole heartedly.

"A lovely second stay at Casa Isabella!"

Rating - 5 Stars

Date of Stay - 11 Jul 2014

Having thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to Noto in 2013, we were very excited about the prospect of returning to Casa Isabella for another fortnight. We weren't disappointed ! Noto itself must be one of Sicily's best kept secrets. It is widely recognised as the 'best' example of Baroque style and its buildings are simply magnificent, constructed of tufa stone which has almost turned golden after years in the sun. By day, the town is relatively 'sleepy'. At night, Noto comes to life and its piazzas are a mass of every generation, its bars and (inexpensive) restaurants are humming and there is very often an event going on - jazz bands, dance groups, outdoor concerts etc. It is in great contrast to the peace and seclusion of Casa Isabella, which lies only about one mile from the town. For anyone wanting a rest, this little property is the perfect answer. It's very tucked away and approached up an unmade track, it sits in an elevated position in the hills (amongst predominantly almond and olive trees), and it benefits from a spectacular far-reaching view of Noto across the valley. The 'cottage' itself is sweet and provides all that one needs and more. These owners have created something very special - a terrific rural base from which to explore south-east Sicily and the wonderful countryside. We sometimes feel that booking through Owners Direct is a leap of faith, but these English owners are extremely organised and very efficient. They are very happy to offer help, advice and local knowledge if required (actually, we didn't need it this year) and it can be reassuring for some to know that they are always at the end of a mobile phone should there be a problem.

We loved this place. The house is small but beautifully formed and excellently equipped. The location is superb, surrounded by groves of almond trees and olives, lemons and oranges. The garden is rich in herbs - and lizards; we could have spent the holiday watching the lizards. There are glorious views across the beautiful valley to Noto and we could easily have spent the whole holiday looking at that too. Noto is magnificent, a marvellous experience. The architecture is startlingly great, especially for a small town and it is arranged with the charm of an opera set. Many of the restaurants and cafes recommended by Richard in his excellent guide came up trumps but we would have given most of them up for the aperitivos at Caffe Costanza. The area round about, with its limestone uplands and dramatic gorges, its extraordinary Baroque towns and its curious and understated coastline is so fascinating that we couldn't bring ourselves to travel beyond it so we don't know anything about the rest of Sicily. We bet its lovely though.

When we arrived at Casa Isabella we soon realised that the online description of the property was very accurate. The views are superb across to Noto but it is still only 5 minutes drive to the town. The location manages to strike a good balance between being close to facilities whilst giving you a real feeling of seclusion once you have driven up the track to the house. We would highly recommend to anyone staying to spend a little extra to enjoy Marilou's food on your arrival. It was delicious and exactly what we needed after a long journey. In terms of facilities, the kitchen has everything you need to take advantage of all the delicious (and incredibly cheap) fresh produce that Sicily has to offer. The shower is very good and the bedroom a good size. The owner, Richard, was extremely helpful both before and during our stay. Responses were always prompt and any correspondence or questions are actively encouraged. The Google map guide of recommendations within Sicily which Richard provides is very useful, especially for sites of interest in Noto. We used it for a number of restaurants, cafes and shops. We particularly enjoyed going to "Porta Reale" for breakfast where the pastries and cappucini are excellent and it provides a good starting point for a stroll into Noto. Away from Noto, we found the main towns of interest to be Modica (great chocolate), Ragusa (notably Ragusa Ibla, the old town), Siracusa (fabulous square) and Scicli (great pizza!); plus Mt Etna is 2 hours away. There is plenty more to to see in Sicily and we could have spent the entire 2 weeks sight-seeing but the peaceful seclusion of Casa Isabella means you can spend days relaxing and enjoying the fabulous weather if you need days off. We would definitely recommend staying here. The south east of Sicily has a genuine, unspoilt feel to it and the cabin is the perfect base from which to explore it.

"Country charm near Noto"

Casa Isabella is the place to be if you want peace, tranquility, good views and a typical Italian Casa. Set amongst an old olive and almond farm with two outside eating areas and a small dipping pool it has charm and all the requirements for a great stay. The Casa looks across the valley to Noto and no better place to watch the sunset with a glass of your preferred choice sitting in the chairs on the upper terrace. It is a harsh landscape that grows on you. Everything was very clean and we had the delightful Marilou ( who speaks no English and we no Italian but we managed to communicate with lots of gesturing) meet us. We were late but she had waited patiently and we had opted for her home cooked meal on arrival. What a treat, simple fresh pasta and a fish dish, ripe tomatoes followed by cherries and strawberries all washed down with a little white wine. Well worth the extra money. We arrived after dark and found the track up to the house a bit daunting at first but soon got used to it. Do book a cooking demo day with Maria. She is delightful and while she cooks gives great advice on the ingredients, cooking tips and the Sicilian way of life. She speaks good English and it was a great time sitting in her kitchen listening, watching and writing down her recipes and the best part was the eating. Divine. We were luck enough to go shopping with her too, another insight into how they shop and the exchange between customer and shopkeepers entertaining even when you don't speak Italian. The advice, the communication, the maps and information given by Richard were a great help and made for easy planning. There is a detailed instruction book on how things work, plenty of books, DVDs and Italian learning books if you are so inclined. We had no time to watch TV. While secluded only a five minute drive from beautiful Noto. See Richard's recommendations on where to eat etc and you can't go wrong. Yes we enjoyed it and would highly recommend to anyone seeking a quieter alternative to hectic town life. We had sunny, warm days. Suitable for a couple. Has stairs leading to bedroom/sitting room which could be difficult for any one with mobility problems. We had no security issues and felt safe during our stay as property can be well secured.

Richard and Sue have carved out a small slice of Eden from a Sicilian hillside at Casa Isabella. Casa Isabella was all that we expected for our vacation, the house is equipped with everything that we needed and it is obvious that a great deal of thought has gone into creating this well positioned hideaway. We both found it very easy just to relax and read or just contemplate the view in the afternoon sun after another superb lunch in one of the restaurants in Noto, this really is very much a "take it easy" place. We ventured out on a number of trips to Siracusa, Palazzolo and Modica. If you travel out to Modica, go via the SS194 and cross the Guerrieri Bridge (300ft high) for a spectacular view of Modica, then drive into Modica Alta for the views down into the lower part of the town - truly wonderful. For lunch, we can highly recommend Ristorante Domus on Corso Umberto 1, opposite the tourist office. We chanced upon the Domus and what a find!! Superb cuisine in a delightful restaurant. In Palazzolo, go to Andrea's, "Slow Food" served here and the menu reflects this - a marvelous way to spend a couple of hours. Back in Noto, we can highly recommend Ristorante Fontana D'Ercole Noto, wonderful food, we will will suffer withdrawal symptoms for this place!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Isabella. Richard and Sue have created something special here and we are both so happy to have shared it for a brief time. we will return. ciao Alan

Casa Isabella exceeded our expectations in all respects. The house is comfortable and well equipped, and the setting is idyllic: looking out westwards over Noto across a valley of lemon, olive and almond groves; quiet, but within easy walking distance of the town; sunny all day (important in March) but with plenty of shade as well. The kitchen works very well, and with the ready supply of superb, inexpensive fresh vegetables available everywhere, we prepared lots of healthy and delicious meals, trying some of the Sicilian recipes from the cookery books (English language) in the house library. Some cool evenings in early March made us light the stove, which produced warmth very quickly from the olive logs provided. The owners are extremely helpful and full of useful advice and information. Noto seemed to us to be the ideal place to stay in that part of Sicily: it is beautiful, of course, and does not have the sprawling modern suburbs of Ragusa or Modica. It is easy to get to the other baroque towns on day trips, and to Etna. It has a stunning hinterland of limestone plateau and gorges where there are wonderful walks and very few people. There is one of the most beautiful stretches of coast nearby at Vendicari, fortunately protected from the 'development' that blights so much of the coast. We loved it and would definitely go there again!

We have really enjoyed our time at Casa Isabella: the little house is well-equipped and cosy, with the bonuses of several British 13 amp sockets and a wood burning stove. Marilou had made it spotless before she met us with the keys and we had the treat of olive oil & lemons, grown on the pretty, terraced grounds. We had fun exploring, finding caves, almond, orange and pomegranate trees & walked into Noto, when we felt energetic. We also visited Siracusa, Catania & Ragusa plus Villa Romana Di Casale & even 'Montalbano's house'. Best to have car for exploring!

"Ideal location for exploring Noto"

Casa Isabella is exactly as described on the website and met our expectations in every way. It is a very comfortable cottage for 2 people (the bedroom could accommodate a 3rd person but it would be a bit of a squeeze) and has all the facilities you would need, including (in our experience) reliable wifi. Its real selling point is its location: it sits on a hilltop with spectacular views across its own orchard and a vast expanse of open country to the beautiful town of Noto and beyond - when the morning sun catches the town on the skyline it lights up in a warm golden glow. It is completely quiet at all times of day and night and yet is only about 10 minutes' drive from the town. One word of warning: it is at the end of an extremely steep and very rough unmade lane, which was a struggle for our underpowered hire car. The owner couldn't have been more helpful both before and during our stay, responding quickly to enquiries and providing advice and suggestions for everything from the best bread shops and good value restaurants to ideas for walks off the beaten track.

My Response

Many thanks for your review, we're delighted you enjoyed Casa Isabella and found our Google Map/Guide helpful. The third bed (a sofa bed in the bed/living room) is really only meant for overnight guests or a child and not really for adult use for a whole stay when it would definitely be a bit of a squeeze. With regard to the hill up to Casa Isabella it is typical of the agricultural tracks which lead to many villas in the Sicilian countryside; in this case many of the worst potholes were filled in 2012 so it was significantly worse before! From personal experience if taken in first gear a basic 1.2 litre hire car will find it a bit slow on one 20 metre stretch, though it can be slightly worse if returning from a hearty meal at one of the restaurants we recommend! Anyway we hope the track didn't spoil your journeys to and from Casa Isabella too much and hopefully we will see you there again sometime soon.

We had a delightful time at Casa Isabella. It is a beautiful situation overlooking Noto across the valley and yet entirely private and un-overlooked itself. Nice shower, well equipped kitchen and clear directions on how to use air con etc. The bedroom is a good size for 2 and fine for + children on a sofa bed. Main bed v comfortable. Some of the patio and garden area is a "work in progress" but lovely walks above and below through the orchards. Plunge pool is small but very welcome on a hot day. Nearest beautiful beach is Eloro, about 15 mins and delightful. Vendicare nature reserve also offers lovely beaches to walk to but nowhere was deserted in August! Thoroughly recommend Casa Is for a couple or small family.

For anyone seeking total seclusion, peace and somewhere to re-charge weary batteries, Casa Isabella is it ! The English owners have created a charming little home, tucked away in the gently undulating hills amongst acres of almond trees and olive groves. No noise and no other people, yet only a two or three minute drive from the fantastic baroque town of Noto, which must be one of the best kept architectural secrets in Europe. Every other building is a classic of the period, street side bars and restaurants (of which there are plenty) provide delicious Italian food - not hugely expensive, as the town hasn't been discovered by the tourist masses and prices are lower than they might be otherwise. From the moment we contacted the owners, we were dealt with efficiently and they went out of their way to help us. We arrived to find a clean and well equipped 'cottage'. The Sicilian caretaker, who speaks virtually no English, was entertaining and introduced us to cactus fruit as well as fresh grapes and almonds, which were growing only a few yards from the dwelling. We would definitely return to this property and can wholeheartedly recommend it to other travellers looking for somewhere different as well as genuine peace and quiet. Oh....and sitting in the plunge pool with glass of wine, as the sun was setting on the far side of the valley, wasn't bad either!

We had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend Casa Isabella as the perfect place to get away from it all, and to enjoy a relaxed pace of life for a couple of weeks. The cabin is just right for two, and outside there is some magical space to watch the world go by and the sun go down. The surrounding land at Casa Isabella is amazing, both to explore and for harvesting apricots and lemons. We had freshly squeezed lemon juice, sparkling water and a dash of sugar most days, just using the fallen lemons alone, never having to pick one! The cabin has been given plenty of loving care and attention by its thoughtful owners. Richard and Sue provided some really useful information before we travelled, and there is equally helpful books, maps and information at the property. We really appreciated everything that had been done to make our arrival welcome and the recommendations were spot on, especially for Noto - we think Cafe Sicilia makes the best coffee! We didn't travel too far as there is so much to do locally, the beaches are within easy reach and Noto is a beautiful town to have on your doorstep for an early morning coffee, aperitivo or meal in the evening. Back at Casa Isabella we enjoyed many happy evenings simply sipping a glass of wine sitting on the terrace, looking at the sunset over Noto which sparkles on the opposite hillside. A pretty perfect place to soak up the atmosphere and sunshine! Ideal for two..... We hope to go again. Thank you.

It's not only a real pleasure to just hang around the house and explore all the fruit trees, but it,s also a perfect base to visit places in the neighbourhood (Syracusa, Noto,Ragusa, the beaches!..).We stayed in 5 different places through our holiday in Sicily, but this hidden gem is definetely our number one! Highly recommended!
